  VERY POOR design. This was touted as going to be a crosswalk similar to what is over by the elementary school on 155th and Meridian. What they've done here is ridiculous and there's going to be a huge problem.

  Agree - this is a horrible design! Even worse for west-bound on 165th! Auto traffic lane heads right into safety zone that was meant to protect children. Perhaps actually striping traffic lane of travel might help to direct vehicles into there narrowed channels you have created. Putting safety islands into what has been traffic lanes for at least the last 40 years that I have lived here …. ?
  Then to not figure out a way to successfully rechannel vehicle traffic …. Line of sight for drivers coming off of 15th is above/over this crosswalk area and any orange traffic cones you might put there as a temporary fix. Something highly visible needs to go up NOW for kids & adults who will be using this crossing in coming days and thinking they are safe.

  Could not agree more with what Patty Hale sad. It's difficult to even know what you were supposed to do when you approach this area. Are the cars heading eastbound supposed to continue to go straight and had slightly into the left lane or are they supposed to go around the little cement piece which then, if the car coming off 165th wants to continue on 165th, puts them on to 12th and potentially having to wait for cars that are at the stop sign on 12th. I cannot imagine that the design is for people heading East on 165th to Veer around the cement on the right. That would be even more ridiculous than it already is. What was the city thinking here? Another clear point of the city not looking clearly at things and using their heads before putting something into place. One should always look at the repercussions before introducing something new, or taking something away!

  Can the city provide us with statistics related to the # of pedestrian / vehicle accidents that have happened at this intersection, to provide some context for this ill-conceived structure?

  Just drove by this project. Nice job on cones for east bound traffic to warn drivers of protruding pedestrian landing. Please have someone go back to the site and do the same (put out cones) on the east bound approach - its actually more dangerous. Whole project will be invisible after dark, as there are no street lights on this section of NE 165th.
