The turn lanes in this area are frequently flooded because the drains are filled with leaves in fall, pollen in spring and trash most of the year.
I know the street sweepers have routes they follow because the surrounding neighborhoods are fairly well swept and clean. Can the turn lanes be added to the route, and maybe extra sweeps in the spring and fall?
1alpha, don't tell me to close this blog, I will close it when I see a change or get an answer from the city, not you!

workers all all lazy and don't care. Suggestions have been accepted and often enacted from citizens thru these blogs, and in citizen action committies. I have found in these joint volunteer/city type groups that many are never satisfyed and continue to believe that the workers and volunteers are conspirators against the taxpayer...as though the volunteers and city workers are not taxpayers. There could be other ideas that could be enacted which may cut down on the debris you speak of and which would not cause other folks to believe they are getting slighted by the redistribution of machinery and men. Just need folks to suggest options which exist in the budget that exists.

I wonder how this great country was ever established. It was started because of taxation without representation as a basis for wanting to be independent. The country did not have "income tax" until 1903 and then less than 10% paid that tax.
Today we have a tax on everything we earn, everything we spend and if we save it we get taxed on that.
Then when someone suggest that a sweeper make an extra pass when turning into a neighborhood, or to take a route that encompasses what is being missed, that person gets a lesson on the aerodynamics of transitional forces between opposing moveable objects and the unintended consequences of the installation of rain diversion and minimal resistance safety barrier vortices and the effect of closed streamlines is vortex flow. Follow that with a lesson on basic economics as if the original suggestion would be more costly than the entire defense budget taking a three year cost analysis and the cost of the study would be a crippling burden on the public protection financial situation and fear of manpower shortages causing a turmoil throughout the entire national matrix or causing the downfall of mankind as we know it today.
1alpha if you are not part of the solution you ARE the problem. This is a forum for people to request and suggest solutions to community issues and problems. However in your political self fulfilling prophecy of being the answer to all issues and the leader of the free world you have become a barrier to improvement in society! Back the heck off and allow people to have a place where the city can hear from the public about issues that are of concern to the people. You are not a dictator of the internet or of this blog/forum. People like you are the problem today, you think you can dismiss every concern of the people and the problem is solved. No, the dirt is where the dirt is, I did not ask how it got there, I asked if there is some way THE CITY could be more efficient in it's already working model of street cleaning. I didn't suggest a major burden to society of the tax revenue, I am talking a 2-3 minute diversion of a street sweeper!

I have a way to save the tax payers money and balance the books at the same time. It will not limit production but it will actually increase production and quality.
When there is some road that needs repaired or a sidewalk that need fixing. Have one person working and just two standing around doing nothing. This will free up enough man hours to do two to three more repairs throughout the city. Understanding that there is more that tax money goes to we need to apply this to all areas equally. When you go to the tax office you only see two people at the counter and the back of file cabinets. Move the cabinets and arrange all desks so the computer screen is visible to the public. Do this in all offices, and go further and put numbers above the desks. Get one of those restaurant number lights that the cooks use to notify the wait staff that they have an order ready. Put the control in the public area and when the customer (tax paying citizen) sees someone checking email for the third time in 10 minutes, or playing angry birds you press the number over their desk and they come to the counter to help instead of doing nothing!!!
What do you think Rhonda, think that will upset 1alpha and make him tell you to close the blog???

Papa. The sweepers do the turn lanes during the regular sweep.
The aerodynamics lesson was to make the point that the turn lanes, intersections, and center lanes/non raised median turn sites build up very rapidly.
Theses areas gathere so much debris between the time the sweeper returns it truly appears that they are missed.
You are correct the turn lanes only take a few minuets for each pass.
A. You asked for the turn lanes to added to the route, they already are they collect debris faster than do the open lanes and the areodynamics given.
B.The trucks often make more than 1 or 2 sweeps at these type locations during the course of the roadway maintenance as these areas are known to gather the debfri faster and hold the debri longer

If they are on the routes as you say then why do they get dirty for weeks and weeks. Last July the pollen finally got removed, and only last week did the leaves get cleaned?
I am really interested as to who and what you think you are. You have answers for every mortal comment in Hampton, but say you are not a city worker. You think you need to tell everyone to close their blogs like you are the blog administrator but you are only a guest. You answer ever comment but offer no solutions short of pay more taxes. How about doing us a favor and allow something to happen before you bully your way onto the next Hampton issue. Or better still, stay away from this for a couple weeks, maybe that will become your new habit and you will be happily forgotten.

All that said, sounds good, except one thing. Are you telling me that I need to go sweep the streets when the street sweeper isn't doing what is expected of them? Or as to other blogs, are you telling me to pull over the cars that are speeding in the areas that your comment has been to close the blog because the police will not dedicate a speed trap? If that is your belief, hey I am more than willing to sweep a street, I do it every time I cut my grass. However who am I supposed to call when I try to pull someone over and we end up in a gun fight at the Hampton Speed Zone?
I hate the phrase "give something back" to the core of my soul. I never was given a darn thing, how can I give "back" what I was never given! I believe everyone needs to do their civic duty and assist in the shortfalls of a program, like reading to the kids, sweeping the street in front of their house, picking up behind themselves. However I also believe I pay taxes to cover the cost of living in a better place where the kids are educated, the public roads are clean and free of potholes, and most of all when I send a child to school or drive down a road it is safe for that to happen. I feel I am to assist the government but it is not for me to do and the government to fill in where I have short comings! I ask for a sweeper to make a high traffic high debris area a higher priority than a back road and it becomes a lesson in government budget & finance.
What the heck do you think of your fellow man? You think we are the damn fools that some politicians think we are? You think you can tell me the problem does not exist and I will believe you because you said so? Do you really think that the answer to every mortal thing brought up here is to close the blog because the city is already doing all they can?
Then I think it is time for you to be schooled! If you believe that there is no government waste then you need a pair of glasses. There has been no end of things that have been fixed because it was brought up in this forum. I have seen improvements when the people are willing to offer solutions AND the leaders are willing to do something about the problems. It is an effort that must be shared. Outside of this forum the only way for me to get this area swept is to call 311, and all they do is pass the message on to the department that handles what is called in. If there is only one person commenting then it will be on a low priority if it EVER gets looked into unless it is a issue of safety that is unreasonable.
I have called in trees that have fallen in public areas because they present a hazard. The city has been very quick to respond. That is a double edge issue, I called it in because it needed to be fixed ASAP and didn't put it here because I am sure this is not an immediate response venue. They responded because it was an issue that could cause injury or death and it was in need of immediate repair.
Now on the other hand I would not call in the street sweeping because it isn't that important that it needs immediate response, and I am sure if I did they would stick that in a circle file called other trash. So I bring it to this forum where it gets viewed by city management and when they see that there is an issue that has an affordable and logical resolution they will eventually respond to it.
However when people do as you do it removes all reason and they will just ignore it because you have taken all sense of reason away from the original issue and resolution.
For that I thank you. Should I make that next tax check to you or is there someone else that I can send it to so it gets put in the pot of doing nothing to fix the issues of the city so we can spend it on stupid?

1)No I am not telling you to sweep
2)No I am not telling you to preform a citizens arrest/stop.
a)Other blogs: I did not suggest police would not dedicate a trap.
b) I indicated they can do what they can do for a period of time as a result of various constraints.
RE; other blogs(litter in Park 901 E little back Rvr Rd) ie cuts/cut backs.
3) No I am not suggesting you are unwilling to sweep a street.
4)We both seem to agree on civic duty.
5)Budget/finance: I enter this in blogs to remind us that city/schools workers, materials, supplies, machinery
have been cut. Not to imply something is wrong w/"papa's civic loyalty"
a)Waste: I agree w/u there is waste. Much to do re: "vote getting" on popular programs as
opposed to champange taste on a beer bottle pocketbook.
6)You are correct this is a 3rd party venue/fourm upon which several things hve been accomplished.
7)311: you are correct;often one goes round and around. I have found that when I request a "call back"
from the department I requested service from I have recieved one.
8)Thank-you for acknowledging the tree crews rapid response. When watching them work at Buckroe Park
I asked another city worker questions and found that the tree crew has 2 workers and 1
supervisor/worker. When I asked about heavy work loads I was told the tree crew asks help from other
work crews, thus causing the helpers to pull off their work loads.
9)I used to be an angry blogger/citizen Then I got involved, but I am not blind.
10) I have found there are weak workers in the city just like the private sector. I will not condem
all council or laborers as lazy,doughnut/Big Mac eaters, nor the teachers and their support staff.
as no count.
11) I will continueto use this blog for exactly the reasons you outlined, perhaps being a kinder gentler
person.
