Please reopen access to the traffic light so people can make a safe left-hand turn to go South on Cattlemen Road...otherwise, as traffic increases due to the snowbirds, it will take longer and longer to make a left-turn and as people get frustrated by waiting in line every day, some of them will begin making unsafe turns...causing accidents...

This construction is causing an unsafe traffic situation and definitely needs to be addresses while this new apartment complex is being built!!

Due to the new construction and side road closures, mor morning afternoon and evening commute have been greatly impacted. I use the traffic light most days to enter and leave my work complex. Since the change and closing of this side street and light access I now have to "wing it" when entering and leaving the complex onto cattlemen rd. This creates a very unsafe driving situation. I have already seen one major accident as a result of the construction and road changes. I don't want to be involved in the next one, please help these hardworking people.

This traffic situation require some review and future planning. With the construction of these 300 apartment units, averaging 2.5 people per unit that puts 750 people living in this area. That increase of traffic both car and pedestrian will make the entire stretch of Cattleman that much busier. The usage of this intersection at Cattleman Lane is not just limited to single or family cars.There are numerous business that use Cattleman lane for all their business and shipping, including Wesco Turf, The American Red Cross, and FEDEX has a shipping depot that needs to use this exit also. There is also a paint store that now has no left turn or red light access causing them to cross an emergency lane rather than turn right then make a u-turn across oncoming traffic. Include the lack of a light at Cattleman Lane, and a less than effective left turn option there only increases the chances of an accident at that location.

No way to safely turn south onto Cattlemen. No middle turn lane is available. During construction, no cars are triggering the light, so northbound traffic continues. As we get closer to the winter season here in Sarasota, there will be accidents.

We saw this coming and are amazed that the situation was allowed and that there is no alternative light or traffic control (such as a Sheriff as if a church was letting out).

There is also a children's doctor office in here so there's always parents with children coming and going throughout the day. This construction has created such a safety hazard for so many people just so more people can move into these apartments and create even more traffic in an already overly-congested area.

While being very cautious when turning left with no traffic signal to regulate traffic, I have had two close calls since the traffic has been routed due to new construction.

Please be pro-active before someone is seriously hurt or even killed while venturing out onto Cattleman road. Let's not be re-active when it is too late. Mike H, Stewart Signs

I would also like to mention that most apartment complexes are gated and there may never be an easy way to leave from our office even after the construction is done.

My car was totaled recently making a left turn onto Cattleman. Some cars traveling at unsafe speed on this road. Too dangerous to make a left here. Very busy Pediatrician office here, many parents and children now have no traffic light.

Please correct this. This is a very dangerous situation and seems poorly planned. Making a left out of this complex is incredibly dangerous and this issue needs to be addressed before a life is lost.

Please put a traffic light at this location as it is very dangerous trying to turn left onto Cattlemen Road from the Live Oak Office complex. Numerous cars are now waiting on Cattlemen Road to turn left, so when there is a gap in traffic I have to wait on all the left turn cars to turn. By that time, the gap is over and I can no longer safely turn. This is very frustrating as I leave the office several times a day.

I spoke to the construction company and was informed that the road is PERMANENTLY closed to through traffic. It will never reopen but will be a private road for the apartment only. We are a pediatric practice with hundreds of families traveling with children to our office each week, and who are in great danger every time they are faced with heading south from Cattleman Lane onto Cattleman Road. Please put a traffic light at this intersection immediately before a family traveling with children is hurt. It isn't a matter of whether or not an fatal or near fatal accident will happen at the corner of Cattleman Lane and Cattleman Road. It's simply a matter of when.

It is completely wrong for the to be permanently closed. An entire set of 3 office complexes of anyone turning left not having the assistance of a light. This was a poor decision, please re-open access to the light for us.

Please resolve our highly unsafe intersection. When making a left turn out of Live Oak Business Center (Cattlemen Ln & Cattlemen Road) there is not a stop light to turn left and heavy, fast consistent incoming traffic. Let’s prevent this safety concern before it's too late and traffic continues to increase.

There is also a Pediatric Clinic that sees at least 30 patients a day. Those patients are also having to come in one way and leave one way with only a stop sign to guide them through the whole of Cattlelman traffic.

I cannot believe Sarasota County is ignoring the need for a traffic light at the intersection just north of Colonial Oaks Blvd. Does someone need to be killed before something happens?

Due to the construction of apartment housing on Cattleman Road, multiple businesses that used to be able to utilize 3 exits from their businesses are now forced to use 1 exit. Hundreds of workers, staff, patients are trying to enter and exit Cattleman Road across 4 lanes of heavy traffic with no signal installed. This is an accident waiting to happen.

I just witnessed what was nearly a multiple-vehicle accident and I was almost part of it! A driver pulled pulled out from Cattlemen Ln to go south on Cattlemen Rd (making a left) and couldn't quite go because oncoming traffic coming from the north and the median strip doesn't allow you to pull up and wait in the middle, so they were stuck blocking both lanes of Cattlemen Rd going north and several cars had to slam on their brakes and wait. Additionally, the vehicles turning left onto Cattlemen Ln from Cattlemen Rd coming south had to cut around the car that was sticking out and almost hit me because as I was at the stop sign waiting to turn left after the car that was sticking out could go. I PROMISE there will be a lawsuit for Sarasota if i'm in an accident as a result of the poor planning of these ill-placed apartments and the closing of the only road to leave Cantu safely from. While you're "monitoring this concern", people ARE going to get hurt! That's going to be on YOU!

We understand that the road leading to the traffic light is private and now blocked off. The issue is everyone having to leave from the Cattlemen Lane exit. There is no suicide lane there because of a median. When cars making a left wait in the middle for southbound traffic to clear, the car is blocking part of either the southbound or northbound lanes. Many cars will make a right and u-turn somewhere along Cattlemen, this is becoming dangerous due to cars lining up in the suicide lane to u-turn.

Exactly. Half the cars leaving cattlemen lane make an unsafe left turn and the others turn right and either make a u turn in a business parking lot, or a residential development. The ideal solution would of course, be another traffic light. However, altering the median (removing it) and creating a suicide lane that is wide enough for a vehicle to wait until it is safe to merge into traffic would be a very acceptable solution to a dangerous intersection.

Moving the light would be the easiest solution. Currently all the businesses that are on the east side of cattleman right after the light now use the EMERGENCY lane to make left turns. This break the the median is not a turn around lane really only a spot for emergency turns for emergency traffic only. Pretty much just a spot that has no concrete stopping you. This traffic is mostly from the Sherwin Williams store and the businesses behind them who have no left turn access and cannot get out any other way. This is also causing a large amount of U-Turn traffic at both entrances to the businesses just to the north of the intersection.

I do not understand the closed comment about this issue, are you saying the LIGHT on cattleman is provided by a private entity and Sarasota County has no say in how or where lights placed on this a publicly maintained road are used or placed? What entity has possession of this light at this intersection? This discussion is not about the closure of the private road it is about the unsafe left turn traffic, some of which is been performed across a marked emergency turn only lane that has has been caused by its closure.

An access road to the light for both Live Oaks complexes and the Surgery Center should be the solution. As the light was obviously installed because there was a NEED and these buildings still exist it would seem that the county's reviewers missed this one. I think that what most people are saying it that there is a REAL need for the county to intervene and advise the contractor to revise the construction fencing layout that would allow access to the light. I am sure that the contractor would rather the easy way for themselves but if they were a responsible business it would be important to them that this be resolved. MAYBE......their contact info should be posted so people could "share" their concerns with the contractor. I can't believe that they would want their business name associated with any mishaps that happen due to their lack of care in planning.

Please know that the road and light at Colonial Oaks Blvd will NEVER reopen to public traffic. I spoke to the contractor directly and he told me that this is private property and the light and road will be solely for the use of the apartment residents.

Doug is correct, this discussion needs to move from the road being closed to correcting and making the left turn option for the businesses and customers safer.
