I'm tired of that excuse. Hire a teenager to do it then or someone else. The kids were out in force hustling during this storm. No excuse. The only way that these people learn is if someone falls on their sidewalk and the law offices of Carter Mario show up. At this point, they should be fined - daily. Being old is not an excuse or a reason. Pregnant women get their sidewalks cleared. People with diseases get their sidewalks cleared. So if I don't shovel my sidewalk can I use the excuse of "I have a bad knee". Nope. Its crap, pure and simple. I'm sure if they're "old" they have children and grandchildren that could pitch in, the same way that I did for my mom and we always did for my parents and grandparents growing up.

My, My, My, this was a snow storm of historic proportion. Somehow I wound up with piles several feet high on my side walk. I have never left snow on my sidewalk for more then a few hours after a snow storm. I don’t know about you and the other poster but when it snows I always attempt to help my neighbors with their snow removal when I’m up to it and I am one of those old people you refer to. I am living on a fixed income and barely hanging on to my home because of high taxes and fees so your kids can go to school. With the amount of snow we had I can’t even hire a snow plow to remove the snow in front of my house and then if I could there is no place to put it. I am not happy with this situation anymore than you. But I am not going to put my health at risk or have to choose between my medication and food because the only way to get rid of the snow in front of my house would require hiring heavy machinery and a large truck to cart it away that I can ill afford. I suggest you have a little empathy and patience for us taxpaying older home owners. This was a rare occurrence. And please stay with your kids at the bus stop until the bus arrives to make sure the little ones are safe.

the snow storm was 13 days ago. This individual didn't move one flake.

And as far as living on a fixed income - so is everyone else. Another EXCUSE. Have my bills gone down? No. Families are paying 200% more in living expenses than we were even 10 years ago. I am sick and tired of you can't pay more for education, etc while the rest of us are footing the bill and killing ourselves to make ends meet. You at least have a fixed income coming in, how many people don't? I have no empathy or patience any more; I"m sure there are lots of YOUNG families who had the same issue and took care of it. Maybe if you were a little nicer someone would volunteer.

I totally agree with the complaint. Many examples exist of people not clearing their sidewalks and then schoolchildren walking in the road. Not just children either. I almost got hit by a car a few weeks ago walking in the road with absolutely nowhere to jump out of the way of an inattentive driver. I guess pedestrians are a quaint relic of the past, with zero rights or courtesies due.

Police should enforce the ordinances requiring residents to clear the snow from the sidewalks in front of their houses. The laziness starts with the homeowners and, apparently, extends to the police who don't bother addressing this very dangerous situation.

Of note, this reasoning of you pay higher taxes so my children can get an education is also pure garbage. Did you have children that went to school? Who paid for that? All the years I didn't have children and paid taxes I didn't complain but evidently when you are a "mature homeowner" you think that you are doing something special for someone. Your high taxes also pay for things like oh ROADS, the library, the senior center, etc, not just a kids education. And you would think that a child's education would be more important than bingo night.

I absolutly agree we had lots of snow harder to move in some areas lots of the issues are from plows weather city or private so I think the city or a private plow can kick in 10 minutes to move some snow to help elderly or disabled elderly are the people who paid tax the longest and sadly the longer they /we live the harder life gets have a heart times r very different from wen I was a kid if we knew of someone with health or age issues we would do it for a cup of hot chocolate now its top dollar of nothing the city made a good part of this mess as mos5 don't seej to no how to plow a corner or remember where bus stops are I live in ansonia for 25 yrs never by choie used public schools always paid the crazy amt of tax but now its getin to feel like we made a mistake to stay here I can't. Now or never will 7nderstand why noone can help. Give back to our neighbors. Buy come 5. Ft of snow or 5 inches nolan feild is cleen I thank God for yankees gas as they cleaned up lots of my area and did a great job. Public works should be done away with let's sub contract this work each ward gets a diff contractor we can even let them all use the p.w garage but they have their own insurance and equipment they don't get paid till the job is done right we save money o yeah no more workers comp either

My neighbors have helped us out with shoveling many times. My boys and husband helped dig out our widowed neighbor. My neighbor next door helped the neighbors across the street. That's what you do when you aren't an animal. People complain a lot about how neighborhoods aren't what they used to be. Maybe they should look at their own actions.
