Large homeless encampment in trees ON THE Lake just south of the Camron-Stanford House. I clean the Lake on Tuesday and the group is polluting the area and taking up huge space. No encampments should be permitted on the Lake; they should be on the other side of the walkway

There are homeless encampments along Lake Merritt (by Lake Chalet), and the residents have generated lots of trash. The City of Oakland has spent a lot of money making this area nice. It would be great if these folks could relocate and their trash could be removed!

Please help as this portion of Lake Merritt has under gone large scale redevelopment of Measure DD at the tax payers expense. These homeless encampments need to be relocated to the Mayor's Tuff Shed Village as soon as possible as it is creating a health hazard for the general Oakland population. Please help today!

The walkway and shrubs are being overtaken by homeless encampments. They are living in the bushes; one man is even living in a small cardboard box! This is quickly turning into another 12th St. "Living Room". Please send someone to access this matter and
help these folks find another place to stay. This is not fair to park visitors and residents in the surrounding neighborhoods, not to mention Oakland tax payers.

There is a growing homeless population in Snow Park which has been reported previously. A knife wielding individual was arrested (first week in June) and since that event there are now a total of 8 tents that have sprung up almost overnight with more coming every other day. They are setting fires @ night in their tents, loud music playing constantly, arguing, menacing/threatening building residents, rats are congregating, and garbage is being piled up in heaps.
  • At The Lake Near 1418 Lakeside Drive Oakland, CA - Lake Merritt
Along the lake behind the historic house, semipermanent encampments with wood, mattresses, tarp and found materials have gone up. They are attached to trees that are now brown and dying. People living there don’t roll up or take down tents and go. They’ve got a kitchen set up and ever-expanding structure. I have great sympathy and know folks need places to live, but this isn’t a good place.

Growing encampment at Lake Merritt where camping is not suppose to be allowed.
  • 1418 Lakeside Drive Oakland, California - Lake Merritt
ILLEGAL CAMPING around the shores of Lake Merritt. Today, 8/21, we saw several large encampments near the water's edge near the Lake Chalet, under trees not far from the Camron-Stanford House (address 1418 Lakeside Drive), and a new tent location by the water's edge to the east of the amphitheater. Please join me in writing to the mayor and the city council. Even in S.F., illegal camping is not visible in GG Park. We need to preserve the beauty and cleanliness of the best urban park in Oakland! Please keep up the letters and emails to our city officials on this matter!
