Descrição

I write to you today after witnessing another accident along Alameda's Safe Routes to School, at the corner of San Jose and Post St. this morning as the school kids were walking to Lincoln Middle School.

I have tried for years to get safety measures added to this corner because I regularly see the near misses and sadly, also the accidents that occur on this corner. I have been able to get two corners painted red to help with visibility so cars can't park there, but it is simply not enough. We need more safety measures or I fear one of our kids will be hit - 4 way stop or speed bumps, or flashing lights, something to increase awareness and visibility and to decrease speed. San Jose is a speedway that people use to avoid other more main streets - there are not a lot of stop signs along the route near our home, so from High Street to Fernside, where there are no stop signs, drivers race as children ride and walk to and from school.

I am especially concerned because San Jose is part of the recommended Alameda Safe Routes to School for kids attending Lincoln and Otis, in addition to kids like my own who use San Jose to get across town to Wood.

I know you are working on a Vision Zero plan and I ask you to focus on San Jose and Post and all streets along the Safe Routes to School.
