  Good afternoon everyone, hope this message finds you all well. I would like to chime in with a similar sentiment to what our neighbor Jackson has proposed. I realize that the game has really taken off in popularity and people are still in the courts all day and night, but it’s made it difficult For some of my community members and I to make use of the courts as many of our schedules do not allow us the luxury of reserving courts and end up dropping in most of the time. I think it would be fine to be able to reserve one, possibly 2 courts but 2 quarts at the very least should be open to Pick up play. Many thanks for your time and consideration.

  I agree with Jackson. There should be more courts dedicated to free play. Right now there’s only 1 court for free play while 3 are reservable. Ideal would be 3 open and 1 reservable. If not how about making 2 open play courts and 2 reservable. And then on the weekends making all 4 courts open play. We just need to work something out so that more people can just drop in and have a chance to play and meet new people. This is a great way to bring people together from all walks of life and creating community and inclusion through pickleball.

  I completely understand why you'd want a court or two reservable. But right now it's totally flipped: 3 courts are always reserved, while 10 ppl are waiting 15-30 minutes for that one open court to free up. The ppl waiting get to play *1 game* and then move right back to the end of the line.

  This current system is restrictive, discouraging, and goes against what pickleball (and really any community sports) are all about.

  Please make at least 2 courts open play. Hopefully 3. With 1 court reservable.

  I share a similar sentiment, I’d make at least 1 other court available for open play. It’s been so awesome meeting other players from the community and sharing a joyful moment with neighbors from all backgrounds and generations that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

  Would love to see more of these courts available for pick up games. The current system is very discouraging due to the long wait for the one open court, and many people I know are now choosing to play elsewhere. Let’s bring community back to Montclair!

  Here is a photo of 11 paddles on the fence, representing folks wanting to play on the one open court and getting crowded out by the reservation system. This is one of those times that people need to wait over an hour to play.

  I love coming to Montclair to play pickle ball. I come 4 to 5 times a week and there is always a line to play. The scene has grown lots in the last year making it hard to get in to play. People I talk to at Montclair always say they love the courts but prefer other courts due to their open play capabilities. Everyone agrees that two or three courts should be for open play. This would make it much more of a communal feel and ease the wait time to get on to play.

  Montclair Pickleball courts are great, but the courts are almost always reserved when I want to play and I don’t usually have a group of four to reserve a court myself. I love playing in the open play court but the wait times are long because the other three courts are usually booked up.

  I also believe having more open play courts is better from an equity perspective. Not everyone can afford the reservation fees every time they feel like playing pickleball. Given that Montclair Park is a public park, I believe the city should consider making these facilities more accessible to those without the financial resources to pay.
