Just a heads up to all. Packages delivered by UPS mostly and sometimes FedEx have been stolen. It happens within minutes after delivery. Suspect someone is trailing the route.

Also - unsure if same suspect - a suspicious white truck has also been floating around just minutes after UPS. Truck has been seen driving and creeping slow around homes, stopping at porch-sightline and peering onto porches from the vehicle. Driver is older gent with two younger gents in vehicle. Suspicious vehicle has been approached and their explanation has been they were looking for scrap metal ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! Regardless, its an admission of suspicious activity. They shouldnt be peering for any reason.

Interesting -last year a truck with similar description came to our house, one of the guys walked toward the backyard where I was and asked about raking leaves. Could have been a coincidence but I always wondered since the week following our garage was broken into, stuff stolen (equipment requiring a truck to haul off). Could be guys looking to make a buck, could also be people casing out houses.

Has this been called into the non-emergency police #?

This has been going on for quite some time. Just before Christmas last year a package was taken from a porch on West Rock Avenue before the UPS truck was out of sight. It was all caught on video home security camera. It was on the news but I don't think the perps were ever caught.

Lt. Tchakirides, or police district manager does NOT monitor seeclickfix. I just got off the phone with him (11am 4/2) He was not aware of this "pattern." Please call or email me more specifics, or call Lt. T. directly, and call ANY suspicious activity in to the PD immediately.

Follow up to Alderman Dildine; I just spoke w/ Lt. Tchakirides- you should NOT call him directly. As the district's commander he is not the info funnel to activity reporting, and it means complaints won't get registered properly. EVERY time you see something call it in to 203.946.6316, the police non-emergency number. Complaints get registered and this is how the need for police presence is calculated. It's good that the neighbors look out for eachother, but the official process w/ the cops needs to be followed, too.

I had this happen to me during Christmas also and I live on West Rock. This could be coincidence but last night I remember seeing a white van with a black door on the driver’s side driving up and down West Rock around 6:30 about the time Fed Ex usually comes down the street. After reading this story it now seems coincidental. Keep an eye out.

Great info but lets not JUST focus on White trucks/vans and put notes up about any suspicious activity around the time of deliveries. Cars/trucks/vans following UPS n Fedex, people roaming on or around others property around the same time of deliveries, etc.

I've had numerous packages taken from my front porch. UPS finally started bringing packages to my back porch, which I think helps. The most egregious was the fact that my son's legos were stolen from the porch two days before Christmas.

My package was stolen yesterday from West Elm. It had my New Years Eve dress in it! ARG! Im so mad! We should be able to have packages delivered safely into our yards and it not be stolen. This was delivered inside our yard, not even on the front porch. PLEASE INCREASE PATROLLING! We need cops trailing UPS/FedEx trucks in the area.

No police do not shadow although I did see some pickup on drivebys from them during Christmas, none now. I dont know if the thefts are still happening but I do know the cops arent drivebying any more.
