Hi everyone. This issue is still outstanding. Although the area is growing rapidly and more and more residents are finding - and using - the Schuylkill River walk/bike trail, in order to access to it via curvy Mowere Road, it is still beyond dangerous. This is a local entrance/exit point, and my reports have generated responses such as "the trail has a stop sign for pedestrians as you cross Mowere" and "cars have a warning to slow down at the crosswalk." All true, and all having zero to do with this complaint which refers to the condition of the highly trafficked public road itself, and its' dangerous unkempt condition with a total lack of space for pedestrians and bicycles to enter or exit the trail itself from the East.

I have been in contact with our Borough and gotten responses from one particular member who has helped me follow up on requests for info and progress. That is good. Correct action is not so much. It seems there is lots of pedestrian warning signs in the works, crosswalk safety blinking lights, water fountains etc in progress on or near the trail, but absolutely no work on the access road (Mowere between Taylor and the SRT entrance) upon which all traffic routinely zips, jumping potholes and overgrowth with blind spots while unwanted (but present) pedestrians hug the side of the road. What IS new is that 3 parcels of land on either side are privately owned and abandoned. Besides being wind swept garbage collectors and overgrowth areas, perhaps this is a lead on who might be responsible for the curb and sidewalk condition? I do have the lot numbers but no other info yet. Thoughts??

The road itself is not repaired, and has still no viable shoulder. The neighborhood has gotten exponentially busier as has the Schuylkill River Trail. The only remaining bit of unfinished business is Mowere.

The issue has, on the other hand, gotten some attention including cutting back (or mowing) foliage that was overhanging the roadway and obscuring full view of the S curve AND a new sign in both directions saying no pedestrians or bikes allowed due to lack of shoulder.

Is that even legal? Somehow the danger and the condition of the road is being ameliorated by actually denying people easy access to the trailhead instead of fixing the problem itself.

This is the sign on Mowere Road in both directions addressing the dangerous condition for pedestrians and bike riders in accessing the Schuylkull River Trail. Pedestrians are restricted rather than road repaired and access supported.
