this problem is getting worse day by day. I almost do not want to even go near Dexter park now or take my dog for a walk near this park. The trash on the ground is disgusting. There is no need for this filth. Park patrons smarten up! Stop being lazy and be responsible with your trash! We know who you are.
I think this is less of an issue of people being slobs, and more of an issue of the city not respecting people's desire to actually use the trash bins. People are putting trash where it belongs, the city needs to collect that trash.
In response to "I think this is less of an issue of people being slobs, and more of an issue of the city not respecting people's desire to actually use the trash bins. People are putting trash where it belongs, the city needs to collect that trash."
If people are putting trash where it belongs this would not be an issue! Trash is the issue here. Whether coming from overflowing receptacles or careless people. Both are major problems with the Dexter park.
Must you be reminded the definition of the word litter:
1.Carelessly discarded refuse
2.To make untidy by discarding rubbish carelessly
When people have respect, they also have pride. Without the two, you have a park full of trash! Smarten up!
I guess my point is that if people are making the effort to use the receptacles, but the city is essentially saying "We don't really care" by not properly emptying them, people are less likely to put forth the effort. I don't necessarily think that's the right attitude, but it is what it is.
People simply littering, however, is a different issue and one on which I think we agree.
I apologize to be responding not about this particular issue, but to invite you to a 'SeeClickFix Storm' happening throughout Rhode Island THIS weekend. The effort is being organized by the Chafee for Governor campaign, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I'm a volunteer. But it would be pretty amazing if we could use this as an opportunity to get many more issues (and people!) on SeeClickFix. Feel free to delete this plug if it's too shameless. But better, please come and spread the word, from the website: http://www.chafeeforgovernor.com/2010/10/join_us_for_our.php or the Facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=154379854600574. Thanks!
