I think there needs to me a left turn at this light. When there is an accident on I-95 there are allot of people that get off this exit and turn left even though you aren't supposed to and then there is allot of cars that are going straight then make a quick u-turn and then head down stillwater past acadia hospital. This was a big mess up when they put up these lights. Please can we get a left turn single at this stop light.

Agreed! Then town council woman Nikki Farnham was the originator of the no left turn off the Stillwater/I95 off ramp. Don’t ask how I know this, it was an embarrassing moment. She said it was done to appease the residents south of the intersection on Stillwater Ave. But, seriously who else would want to turn left there other then someone who wants to go to one of those residential streets. There is no other reason to turn left. Anyone who wants to go down towards EMMC would get off on the Hogan Rd and anyone who would want to go downtown would continue on to the Broadway Exit. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen drivers ignore the no left turn and do it anyways or drive cross the street and do a u-turn in the strip mall entrance to make a right on red.

The state has the most weight on this decision and actually had the final determination based on engineering reports and traffic studies if a left turn was warranted. I believe if they now added a left turn off the ramp it is going to create more of a delay in the light cycles as the thought was there would not be many people turning left. Before they make any further changes, they (including the city) need to resolve the traffic backup/intersection blocking, poor traffic light timing problems first that exist from that intersection all the way back toward Kitteridge.

It should be noted that the off ramp was built to help eliminate traffic congestion on Hogan Road for vehicles going to the Mall. A left turn was purposely omitted to avoid more traffic heading to Broadway and across more residential areas.

This light is ridiculous. There is no reason why the left-most lane can’t take a left if the entire intersection is exiting from this exit ramp ONLY. As a local resident who uses the exit every day, there is no reason why a left-turn here is prohibited. It may reduce congestion and confusion, as well as preventing a u-turn in the entrance of the Kohl’s, etc, parking lot where people regularly ignore stop signs or perform “rolling stops”, endangering those of us trying to get home. Please note the other issues as reported by others at this intersection. Clearly, this intersection needs to be rethought, MDOT.

It would be no different of a light cycle then there is right now, except your left lane can turn left and go straight the other three sides can turn left
