Broadway and the Fountain on the green are the 2 biggest hangouts. The younger teens use the green right after school, while the older teens congregate around Broadway. While many are probably socializing and having fun there is definite drug activity around the fountain. Many of the suburban kids know about this option! Police please take note!!! There is very little free or cheap for New Haven teens to do on a weekend night that is safe...a sports complex, bowling alley, teen center, skatepark would be a great idea!!! Look at suburban towns like Shelton, Wallingford, etc.
Although I don't really see this as an issue for SCF, I'll respond that I see skateboarders all the time. In addition to the fountain area, a group gathers regularly in the area between the Giamo Federal Building and Bank of America near the Lieberman sculpture.
Definitely an issue for SCF Ken CT! Its a public land use suggestion. We also see a lot of kids using the downtown train station rails and stairs. As a skateboarder I would love to see this personally.
I see kids around the fountain a lot and with all the cold and snow lately the fact that they are still out there indicates to me they need a place to go. I think it is great idea.
The issue has been resolved. If you need to report a new issue please do so in See Click Fix or call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees at (203) 946 - 8004. Thank you.
While only downtown adjacent the second skate park was just completed in Scantlebury Park just off the canal line. Even before the official opening its already seeing great use.
Reopening as there is discussion of a skatepark in the Temple Street Garage. Scantlebury is great, but it’s small and gets very crowded very quickly. The city could use more skateparks as evidenced by the sue at Edgewood and Scantlebury.
